Lyles Gets Better Of Coleman In 100m Showdown By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Noah Lyles claimed that he was ready to go "Speed Racer" at this weekend's Shanghai Diamond League meet, and he wasn't kididng. Lyles clocked 9.86 to beat fellow American Christian Coleman by .006 seconds. Lyles rallied late to get Coleman at the line. Both results bode well for American hopes to win the men's 100-meter title at the IAAF World Championships later this year. In one of the most highly anticipated showdowns of the meet, Abderrahman Samba of Qatar beat first-year pro Rai Benjamin in the 400-meter hurdles, 47.27 to 47.80. In the women's 400 meters, Sydney McLaughlin made her international debut in the 400 meters and placed second to Salwa Eid Naser from Burundi, 50.65 seconds to 50.78. Fred Kerley of the U.S. won the men's 400 in 44.81 with fellow Americans Michael Cherry and Nathan Strother making it a top-three sweep. Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha of the Nike Oregon Project won a close race in the 5,000 meters, clocking 13:04.16 to edge Selemon Barega (13:04.71) as Ethiopians went 1-2-3. Aleia Hobbs, coming in off of a successful performance at the IAAF World Relays, won the women's 100 meters in 11.03 seconds. Rababe Arafi of Morocco won the women's 1,500 in 4:01.15. Top American Alexa Efraimson finished ninth in 4:04.53. Four women cleared the top height of 4.72m (15-5.75) in the women's pole vault, including Sandi Morris of the U.S. Olympic champion Katerina Stefanidi of Greece won the competition on fewer misses. Morris finished fourth. Chase Ealey of the U.S. won the women's shot put with 19.58m (64-2.75).
