Lavillenie Set to Soar in ShanghaiPublished by IAAF on May 13, 2016 Two years ago, Renaud Lavillenie surpassed Sergey Bubka as the world’s highest-ever in the pole vault, clearing 6.16m indoors in Donetsk, a centimetre higher than Bubka’s absolute best. As the men’s pole vault makes its 2016 IAAF Diamond League debut in Shanghai on Saturday, the Frenchman could be on his way to surpassing another Bubka statistic. Bubka won the first six editions of the outdoor World Championships before anyone else got their hands on a gold medal. Similarly, Lavillenie has won the Diamond Race in the first six editions.
